Kick-off Meeting in Lodz, Poland

15-16 January 2026

The Bio4Pak project kick-off meeting hosted by the consortium leader – the University of Lodz – brought together partners to build a strong foundation for next four years. Partners from Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Estonia and Poland joined forces during the two-day on-site meeting in Lodz.
Despite the winter weather, the atmosphere was welcoming and highly productive. The on-site meeting created space for open dialogue, hands-on workshops, and strategic discussions, enabling the consortium to establish a strong foundation for joint work.

Key outcomes of the meeting

Over the course of two intensive days, the consortium:
– discussed the overall objectives and long-term vision of the BIO4PAK project,
– conducted brainstorming sessions and interactive workshops, generating valuable technical and strategic insights,
– aligned on next steps, roles, and cooperation mechanisms across work packages.

Importantly, discussions went beyond scientific and technical aspects. Partners also addressed commercialisation pathways, intellectual property protection, and strategies to ensure that project results move beyond research and towards real-world application and market uptake.

Strengthening impact through portfolio collaboration

A dedicated part of the meeting focused on opportunities arising from WP Portfolio collaboration. The BIO4PAK consortium recognises that building a circular future for bioplastics and food packaging requires cooperation beyond individual projects. Strengthening links within the EIC Circular BioPlastics portfolio has the potential to significantly accelerate innovation, impact, and market readiness.

People behind the project

Beyond formal sessions, the kick-off meeting also provided valuable opportunities to build personal connections. During a shared dinner, partners exchanged experiences and perspectives, strengthening professional relationships that are essential for long-term collaboration. The visit was complemented by a guided tour of Lodz led by Justyna Tomaszewska, who introduced guests to the city’s unique history and character.

Looking ahead

The BIO4PAK consortium is grateful for the opportunity to work together within this project. The commitment, expertise, and openness of all partners form a solid basis for success. With a shared vision and strong collaborative spirit, the consortium looks forward to advancing sustainable, recyclable bioplastic solutions for food packaging in the coming years.
